What began with a love for baking has grown into a dessert studio centered around thoughtful design, scratch-made flavor, and the celebrations that bring people together.
Fatcakes has been a dream in the making for generations. Our story begins in a Washington, D.C. row home with great-grandma Shirley Mae, affectionately known as Grandma Tubby, whose love for baking was passed down to her great-granddaughter, Ashley Mae—the founder, owner, and creative behind Fatcakes.
In 2019, that inherited love for baking grew into Fatcakes Cupcakes, beginning with cupcakes, creativity, and a desire to make life’s sweetest moments feel a little more special. What started with one dessert has grown alongside the celebrations we’ve had the privilege of being part of—from birthdays and baby showers to weddings, corporate events, and everything in between.
Today, Fatcakes Cupcakes Dessert Studio carries that same heart forward through custom cakes, curated dessert collections, and private decorating experiences. The offerings have grown and the details have become more refined, but what matters most has remained the same: creating something special for the moments people want to remember.

For me, creativity is home, and Fatcakes Cupcakes has always been about more than making something sweet. It’s about creating a reason to bring people together, a flavor they’ll remember, or a cake that becomes part of a moment worth celebrating.
I love taking an idea, a color palette, a theme, or even the smallest detail and imagining what it could become. I believe creativity is a God-given gift, and Fatcakes has given me the opportunity to use that gift to create joy, connection, and something meaningful for others.
That creativity is at the heart of everything I make. Whether I’m designing a statement cake, bringing an entire dessert collection together, or welcoming guests for a decorating experience, I want what I create to feel thoughtful, personal, and unmistakably Fatcakes.
